Horizontally Screen As A Part Of Cinematography Techniques
Cinematography, with its appearance and rapid development, represented a threat to the existence of other arts and entertainment, for example, theater, concerts, circus, etc. However, life has shown that each of these species has found its place in society and continue to grow. For over a hundred years of its triumphant development the cinematography itself was threatened by electronic means, such as radio, television, film cassette, and now - compact discs. However, it has resisted, its development and prosperity continues. However, it must seek and find ways to improve and expand its scope in order to use more its potential. Film screen since the birth of cinema has always represented a plane (or a part of the cylinder), which was mounted vertically. In the history of cinema there was no attempt to place the screen in another way, for example, horizontally.
But the vast majority of the events, reflected on the screen, happen in horizontal plane. Horizontal film screen: a spectator, watching moving pictures on a vertical screen, accepts it is not entirely accurate as it is shown on the screen. The mind of the viewer has to constantly adjust the observed and supplement it based on experience. For example: the viewer sees on the screen - on a vertical wall, the river flows (or a ball is rolling). He knows that it all happens in a horizontal plane and that the river flows (or the ball rolls) something as left to right, or like right to left, and not from the bottom up or top down.
However, numerous observations (especially in non-cinema-shows) showed that the perception of moving pictures, when its observation occurs in conditions close to natural, more complete, more efficient, more emotionally powerful than when displayed in a distorted viewing conditions. In this case the brain of the viewer free from the need to adjust the picture and is able to focus more on the content of the image on details and on the effect of seeing the image. Considering the image of a horizontal screen above, the viewer feels as though his place in the events occurring on the screen.

He seems to be on the lookout tower or the helicopter and sees a picture that is happening on the ground. When observing the same image on a conventional vertical screen there is no sense of place of viewer and we have to think the fact that the audience learns about what is happening through the drawn picture rather than watching the events themselves. Showing on a horizontal screen could increase emotional impact and effectiveness of films on the viewer. The effectiveness of the use of horizontal screen to show feature films is quite complicated and contentious because of the large variety of images of characters. To solve it people would have to conduct long and costly researches.
But there are several kinds of cinema, in which the use of horizontal screen rather than vertical screen allows to provide the conditions for observing the image of almost the same as it is in life. These species are, for example, showing of sporting events: football, hockey, figure skating, tennis, etc., as well as some other types of screenings. Showing sports movies on the horizontally screen and combined with cinematography techniques can significantly improve the conditions of observation and to improve the impact of movies on viewers. Moreover, it can serve as a powerful tool for the development of these sports, for teaching and training of participants of sports events.
